Data_Scape: Proposal

My ongoing project Data_Scape, which was begun in 2007 is a live representation of the Internet traffic passing over the local network. As the information is read, it is thentranslated into both sound and image in their simplest forms. The transformation of information into these reduced forms questions the notion of the digital environment we find ourselves knowingly or unknowingly participating within. The aim of the project is to explore user interactions within a given system and ultimately exhibit the work live in a gallery space.

The Rhizome grant would allow the continuation of development of Data_scape program. By expanding the software to utilize the current computer power available; Data_Scape will render in 3D with greater detail. This support will also aid my research into user interactions with the Internet. The grant would allow for installation in a gallery with the necessary equipment including a LCD projector, a sound system capable of playing down to 19Hz and a computer that is compatible with Data_Scape software.
